Just a quick follow up on my previous shoulder update post on my recent shoulder pain struggles. The second doctor thought the surgery recommendation was premature. He recommended conservative treatment, including a cortisone shot and physical therapy exercises, followed by a second shot in a month or two, if needed. Only if problems persisted after that would he recommend considering surgery. So, that’s what I’m doing.
I’ve been grateful for the well wishes and concern from many of you, my online friends. Thank you!
All best wishes Mike, and hopefully you can avoid surgery, healing more gently over time.

I’ve had cortisone in both my foot and my elbow. It worked wonders.

Just be careful in therapy. Avoiding further injury is the key to avoiding surgery. To build up the muscles of the joint, which are presumably injured, they must be used.
Good luck!

Thanks Steve. That’s good advice. The main injury is in my supraspinatus tendon, and I intend to be extremely cautious in exercising it. I was told to use resistance bands, and will probably use them for the internal and external rotation exercises, but I’m thinking I won’t use any resistance other than the weight of my arm for the full can exercise that targets the supraspinatus, at least at first.

Hang in there, take it easy, and give it time. Us old farts take ages to heal with stuff like that. Good luck!!
